Is it Possible to Have Too Much Content on Your Website?

You want to market your product or service the best way possible on your website but can you go too far? This is the biggest dilemma faced by web designers because you want to keep the attention of the site visitors while also providing the necessary information.
You don’t want to drive them away. So how do you know when to stop?
Is it Interesting?
All your content should be interesting but you must remember your audience. What is interesting to you because it is your product or service is not necessarily interesting to the potential customer. Know your audience. If the information isn’t interesting, take it out.
Are Shorter Posts Better?
Attention spans seem to be shrinking but the length of the post is only one factor to consider. The quality of your content is much more important than its length. Know what you want to say. Say it as briefly as possible in a manner that is appealing to the site visitor.
Use More Than Words
Old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words in never truer than on a website. A short introduction to the graphic you might be using may be all that is required depending on the quality of your image.

Use More Than Words
Old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words in never truer than on a website. A short introduction to the graphic you might be using may be all that is required depending on the quality of your image.
You need good graphics because customers are looking for an experience that doesn’t’ come from a 500-word post. The number of words is not nearly as critical as the relevance to the site visitor. Good graphics can grab their attention and entice them to stay to read your content.
Know Your Audience
Possibly the biggest mistake you can make is to not know your customers. You need to study their behavior to give them the experience they are looking for. Engage your customers and really get to know them.
Your content needs a purpose and that purpose should be to convert visitors into clients. You also want your content to increase and spread the word about what you are offering.
Test your content taking note of how your customers react to it and interact with it.

What About Keywords?
Keywords are important for search engine algorithms but potential customers aren’t looking for a page with an abundance of keywords. They want information relevant to their needs. No matter how many keywords you use your message must still meet the needs of your audience.
Site Visitor Opinion
Visitors to your site will form an opinion very quickly. This opinion will determine if they will stay or leave. Probably the only way to reduce or eliminate snap judgements on your homepage is with design improvement.
